Catching up on the last week or so --

* Yuletide is finished and posted! A full day early, which is almost a record for me, so now I have to dislike myself, too. Good luck to everyone still finishing! Remember, the more you stress, the more bears get their wings! Er, or something like that, I've heard?

* I still haven't watched last week's Merlin. At this point, might wait until just before this week's. Finale, sob. I have so much anxiety over this finale

* I saw Sherlock 2 and MI:4 last weekend. I have not had that much fun at the movies in one weekend in a long time. And wow, slashtastic, if you're into that sort of thing.

We saw MI:4 at the Smithsonian IMAX screen at the Air & Space Museum, which was awesome as always. We have an AMC "IMAX" much, much closer, which is also a nice screen, but if you want the full six-story IMAX experience, you pretty much have to schlep out to the museum.

But the best part was that I idly tweeted that I was seeing the movie and said "Thanks, Smithsonian!" -- and Monday morning, I got a cheery "You're welcome!" response from the Smithsonian IMAX twitter account. I didn't even know they had a twitter account!

* More LJ shenanigans, I see. I don't see much effect from it personally, other than some comm irritations. I really wish I liked Dreamwidth better.

* Just one more week (and a bit) of 2011! Wow, I cannot wait to see the back of it. What a craptastic year.

Growing up, it was just my mom and me, and my mom is a lapsed-Jewish Unitarian with strong though amorphous pagan tendencies. She never wanted to celebrate the Jewish holidays in any traditional way, but she had an extremely strong antipathy toward anything to do with Christian holidays (she's mellowed enough now to enjoy the occasional lit up reindeer).

So I was the kid who got scorned by both the Christian and Jewish kids at school, and my mom wanted to give me a winter holiday to celebrate, too. She picked December 21st, (usually) the winter solstice. We had a little tree decorated with popcorn strands and a dove on top (with the peace symbology, not the Christian).

Though I celebrate secular Christmas with friends and coworkers now out of convenience (and a love of sparkly lights), the Solstice will always be my holiday (and holy day). I hate it when the days grow shorter and the nights darker. After tonight, we'll be past the worst of it, and whatever else winter brings, I know that the sun is slowly making its way back. I think that's cause for celebration, whatever your spiritual beliefs (assuming you're in the Northern Hemisphere, of course)(presumably my Southern Hemisphere flisters are reading this with a smug smile as they get ready for their holiday beach trips).

So I'm wishing you all a warm and happy winter season. Happy Midwinter!

So, next week looks exciting, yes? I can't believe there are only two episodes left. And I kind of want to go look for spoilers for the finale, but I just can't face it yet!
Merlin - Bradley's fantasy
Wow, this week has been the biggest emotional rollercoaster ever (fannishly speaking -- real life is quite nice for the most part). I have never had so many huge fandom ups and downs in such a short space of time.

Let's focus on the ups:

-- I got to go see Parked at the DC Irish film festival screening with [livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew and [livejournal.com profile] stellarmeadow. A very good movie hitting surprisingly close to home for me on a few levels. Colin Morgan remains a relentlessly impressive actor and also just exquisite to look at. I got to meet and chat with [livejournal.com profile] stagarden and wave briefly to [livejournal.com profile] incapricious (okay, we really just have to meet properly already!)

-- People actually read and liked my unicorn porn! I love you guys so much for actually giving it a chance.

-- I got the best story ever for [livejournal.com profile] merlin_holidays! If you like modern royal AUs, you are going to love this. If you like teenage boys kissing, pining, jealousy, or second chances at love, you will love this. Disregard the rating and the unnecessarily self-deprecating author's note -- you are going to love this fic.

Here, go read it: Same River Twice.

I can't wait to find out who wrote it and HOW THEY CLIMBED INTO MY BRAIN.

So what were your fannish ups and downs this week?

Title: The Blessing
Author: Cori Lannam ([livejournal.com profile] corilannam)
Rating: NC-17
Wordcount: ~4,000
Pairing: Merlin/unicorn, implied Merlin/Arthur
Content Labels: bestiality (human/unicorn sexual activity)

Summary: Set immediately after episode 1.11. The unicorn has come back to life, but it still wants something from Merlin.

Notes: A very, very late entry to the Kinkspiration Round 1 Bestiality Challenge. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26 and [livejournal.com profile] novemberlite for hosting this awesome challenge and bringing more delicious kink to Merlin! Thank you to google for not questioning some extremely dubious search queries. And great thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anna_zee, who beta'd this (almost completely willingly!) and pronounced it "not gross or creepy or anything!"

That night, Merlin went to sleep happy and with a full belly for the first time since Arthur had decided it was a brilliant idea to shoot an innocent unicorn )

So I'm finally watching last week's Merlin. Yes, last week's.

A few notes as I watch on Merlin 4.09 - Lancelot du Lac )

Okay, on to this week's....
yuletide - the bunnies are restless
This is a placeholder for my yuletide letter. I'm going out of town tomorrow and won't have frequent internet access, so if you're my lovely yuletide writer and it's not here yet, please check back!
Merlin - stuck at work
The long trailer for the Hunger Games movie debuted on Good Morning America this morning, and OMG, I still have chills all over my body.

Still bummed it's not eligible for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year, but it looks like the movie is going to give me the story I was going to ask for anyway.

Off topic: If someone (me, for instance) tells you their grand plan for skipping over the sex scene in their story and going back to fill it in later because that's going to be so much more efficient, feel free to mock.

Argh, so very late on this. And so very long.

Random note: it was really funny hearing John Hurt doing the opening credits VO this week after having just seen him playing...almost the same role in Immortals.

Merlin - frowny face
Power is mostly out. Cable and internet are out. Having to go to extreme (and very slow) technological measures to obtain Merlin.

My punishment for whining about slow download speeds last week.
Merlin - Bradley's fantasy
You know what I really need? An autocorrect in Word that will fix it every time I type "Melrin" instead of "Merlin." Which is every. single. time.
Merlin - Bradley's fantasy
OMFG DOWNLOAD FASTER.

FASTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
autumn
Happy Halloween and happy Samhain! It's the last day of my favorite month and the day before my least favorite month begins, so I'm trying to make good use of it (i.e., catching up with online things).

* Today marks the third year in which I have failed to write my Merlin-can-get-pregnant-only-on-Samhain-and-Arthur-finds-this-verrrrrry-interesting story and the sixth year in which I have failed to write my Duran-filming-the-Nightboat-video-OMGZOMBIES story.

* Today is the day before my mom moves into her new place! Yay! Now I have to somehow find airfare I can afford to go out and help her get all her stuff out of storage and unpacked (preferably avoiding the weekend of Survivor Series, including Thanksgivinghahaha, and not using more than a week of vacation time).

* Today is also the last day I can put off writing because tomorrow starts NaNoWriMo. I kind of wanted to do something original this year, but nothing is quite gelled enough yet. But I am going to push myself to do the 1,667 or so words a day and catch up with some of the fic I've been letting slide. Who else is doing it this year?

* So I hear that at the Atlantic City concert this weekend, the boys came out in Halloween masks. Nick, of course, was a unicorn. And Simon was a bull -- and as confirmed on Twitter, John was a cow. So nice of them to dress to match in this as in everything else. *headdesk*
Merlin - Bradley's fantasy
Okay, I know that's not really the title, but I don't remember what it actually was and I haven't read my flist yet and I'm so late on this because yesterday was my BFF's bday and I was fete'ing her into the wee hours and my thoughts are so teal this week that probably nobody's going to read it anyway.

And on that note....

When king is all there is to be )

Okay, off to read all of your reactions now and hope people aren't tired of discussing the ep yet. We should discuss Merlin all week, Y/Y?
