corilannam: (Merlin - Bradley's fantasy)
Title: All He Wants Is
Author: Cori Lannam ([livejournal.com profile] corilannam)
Rating: G
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Wordcount: 800

Summary: Modern AU. Getting his assistant a Christmas present should have been a lot easier than this, Arthur thought.

Notes: I wrote this tiny bit of holiday fluff for the [livejournal.com profile] summerpornathon Christmas in July bonus challenge. Now seemed like a good time to finally repost it. Dedicated to anyone who, like me, is still struggling to find a few last-minute gifts (good luck!)

Merlin was sulking. Again. )

Title: The Blessing
Author: Cori Lannam ([livejournal.com profile] corilannam)
Rating: NC-17
Wordcount: ~4,000
Pairing: Merlin/unicorn, implied Merlin/Arthur
Content Labels: bestiality (human/unicorn sexual activity)

Summary: Set immediately after episode 1.11. The unicorn has come back to life, but it still wants something from Merlin.

Notes: A very, very late entry to the Kinkspiration Round 1 Bestiality Challenge. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26 and [livejournal.com profile] novemberlite for hosting this awesome challenge and bringing more delicious kink to Merlin! Thank you to google for not questioning some extremely dubious search queries. And great thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anna_zee, who beta'd this (almost completely willingly!) and pronounced it "not gross or creepy or anything!"

That night, Merlin went to sleep happy and with a full belly for the first time since Arthur had decided it was a brilliant idea to shoot an innocent unicorn )

Title: Ye Olde Fuck Machine
Author: Cori Lannam ([livejournal.com profile] corilannam)
Pairing: Arthur/Merlin
Rating: NC-17
Wordcount: ~1900
Warnings/Spoilers: none

Summary: Merlin builds a medieval fuck machine in Arthur's bedroom. Arthur doesn't know what the hell to make of that, but manages to have an opinion about it anyway.

Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anna_zee for the very helpful beta and for not making fun of me more than was strictly necessary.

This is the uncut version of my submission for Week 1 of [livejournal.com profile] summerpornathon.

Title: The Telegraph Boy
Author: Cori Lannam ([livejournal.com profile] corilannam)
Rating: NC-17
Warnings/Spoilers: Voyeurism/exhibitionism, slight dubcon
Word count: 2,626
Summary: Merlin had only meant to deliver a telegram. He hadn't meant to break the laws of God and Queen Victoria. Truly, he hadn't.

Notes: This was my entry for [livejournal.com profile] summerpornathon Challenge #2. Well, before I had to chop 2,000 words out, because I have apparently still not gotten the point of this. *headdesk*

I am having a really crappy day. Just needed to whine for a second there.

But I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin! Twice, actually, because I like nothing more than biting off more than I can chew.

I signed up for:

Dirty Dancing -- I actually started a version of this ages ago, but someone always beat me to it during sign-ups. But this time, if anyone's gonna fail to write it, it's gonna be me! I signed up right before bed last night, then couldn't sleep until I found the notebook with the start of the story in it. Then I remembered that I had started writing it in first person present tense. WTF? That's going to have to change.

This will probably be the closest I've ever followed the movie plot for a reel_merlin fic, though I'm moving it to present day Brighton to tell the story of a young gay boy finding himself (and sex). Very little of the dialog will be the same, so I'm hoping that will keep it from seeming *too* derivative.

The Adjustment Bureau -- It'll take second seat to DD, but I really want to write a story in canon-verse using the TAB universe to explain the wonky relationships and characterizations of S2 and S3 of the show. You can't fight destiny, y'all.

I finally managed to type up the wee little Merlin story I was writing during my Royal Wedding all-nighter last week, an epilogue to a story I haven't actually written (yet).

I went and posted it at the Royal Wedding Fest, even though it's pretty clear I missed the bandwagon there. But just in case there's anyone who isn't royal weddinged out yet, it's over here --

Sketches from A Royal Wedding

There, now I can work on those DVD commentaries I owe. And also maybe read something! You never know!

***

Speaking of reading, I've been stuck playing the role of de facto meeting planner all week, which has been kind of fun, but involved a lot of sitting around during some very dry sessions. This allowed me to finally finish reading Game of Thrones, and now my emotions are all in a riot but I can't go seek out discussion because I haven't read the other three books yet.

*flail*

***

Speaking of other things I'm behind on (i.e., life), I went to a mortgage seminar given by my credit union the other week. It's looking more and more likely that within the next year or two, my mother is going to have to come and live with me, due to her housing assistance getting cut more and more. This can obviously not happen in my tiny one-bedroom apartment, so I've been looking into what it would take to buy something that would allow us to live together without going completely insane (she refuses to consider anything where she doesn't have her own bathroom, a yard, and is within scooter-distance of thrift store shopping).

The answer turns out to be, approximately twice what I can actually afford. Not that I can afford to buy anything right now -- holy crap, y'all, it takes a lot of cold, hard cash to buy a house! I think I need a second job.

The meme:

Name one of my fics in the comments and I will tell you what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the characters' heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

I'll add that you can feel free to ask about any specific scene, character, or random question, so you don't have to listen to me blather about a whole story if you don't want to. Any of my DD, Merlin, or Yuletide stories are eligible.

My thanks to my betas: [livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew, [livejournal.com profile] anna_zee, and [livejournal.com profile] stellarmeadow for much neurotic handholding and (very literal) 11th hour beta duty.

Title: The Tournament of All Magicks
Author: Cori Lannam ([livejournal.com profile] corilannam)
Pairings/characters: Arthur/Merlin, Gaius, Morgause
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 41,321
Warnings/Spoilers: Highlight to read: Contains an element of sexual assault. If you need more details to know whether you can safely read, please PM or email me! Spoilers for all of S1 and S2, and some of my own speculation of what might happen in S3 based on the rumors (but no specific spoilers).
Summary: Merlin is invited to compete in a tournament of magic. Sure, he'd like to become the champion of all Albion, but first he has to get past giant creatures, a seductive sorceress, and the crown prince of Camelot.

Author's notes: Thanks as always to: [livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew and [livejournal.com profile] anna_zee for large quantities of handholding and beta work (larger than usual!); to my faboo vidding artist [livejournal.com profile] mamoru22 for her patience and the awesome trailer she did for the story (see below! leave her lots of feedback so I can talk her into doing another vid for the story!); to the great mods and support community that made this challenge happen; and to the United States Department of Defense.

All comments and concrit are welcome. I would love to hear anything you liked or didn't like about the story!

Title: It's not the end of the world (but you can see it from here)
Author: Cori Lannam ([livejournal.com profile] corilannam)
Film prompt: 2012 for [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin Round 3
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Rating: NC-17/18+
Word Count: ~33,000
Warnings/spoilers: APOCALYPSE. Worldwide death and destruction. Character death (not Merlin or Arthur). Imprudent barebacking. Character name spoilers through series 2.

Summary: Arthur, Prince of Wales, finds it hard to accept that he and Merlin have no future. Then he finds out that neither does anyone else.

Notes: Sincere thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew, who showered me with commas and put up with my whining for several months; [livejournal.com profile] stellarmeadow, who helped me avoid a near miss with a nervous breakdown; [livejournal.com profile] hannelissar, my Britpicker extraordinaire, who encourages my love of the semicolon. And of course, [livejournal.com profile] anna_zee, who has the magical ability to look at a draft and tell me exactly what's wrong with it and how to fix it, and also dealt with far more of my writing neuroses than any friend should have to bear.

All comments and critiques welcomed. I would love to hear about what you liked or didn't like!

I have never done this much editing on a story in my life.

I think my current process can pretty much be summed up by the following moment from Sports Night:

Jeremy: I don't know what to do.
Casey: You should make it shorter.
Jeremy: I tried everything.
Casey: You should try making it shorter.
Jeremy: What's the key?
Casey: In this case?
Jeremy: Yeah.
Casey: Making it a lot shorter.
Jeremy: I can't imagine what I'd cut.

A year after I first joined dreamwidth, this is my first attempt to actually crosspost! I'm emboldened by finally having managed to import all my LJ entries to DW -- if anyone else is getting repeated import failures, go here - http://www.livejournal.com/settings/?c=OldEncoding - and set your encoding options to Western European (Windows). That did the trick for me.

Of course, now begins the much more difficult task of choosing which icons to bring over. With only 15 slots, now is when we find out just how much I really love my old fandoms....

***

On the LJ side of things, I finally purchased a rename token. I got my LJ in... 2002? And I've wanted to change the name since about 2003. So within the next day or two, marzilla is going to become corilannam. This will probably happen on Twitter, too.

It's not really streamlining my life, but I like to think of it that way.

***

My fannish energies have been going mostly into my reel_merlin story, which is due in... aw, man, let's not think about that.

It's based on last year's mega-apocalypse movie 2012, which offers me one distinct advantage in terms of finishing. Should the deadline day arrive and I am not done? I can merely stop where I am and type in that old fannish standby: "And then the world blew up and they all died."

And I will be completely justified in the source material.

It also seems that another Merlin Big Bang is gearing up for over the summer. I think I'm going to give that another try, especially since the minimum word count is only 20K this time. And this time, I'll actually figure out the story before I start, instead of just trying to type several thousand random words in some kind of order.

I'm debating between trying to finish the one where Merlin goes to compete in a tournament of wizardry, or starting the one where Arthur is a personal trainer and Merlin becomes his (reluctant) pet project.

***

Okay, let's see if this works. *holds breath, clicks post*

ETA: It did not work. Let's try this again.

Yes, I'm crossposting from Dreamwidth -- http://corilannam.dreamwidth.org/125249.html. comment count unavailable people commented over there. Comment wherever you want!
