RTD = dead to me

I...really can't think of anything else to say that doesn't involve a great deal of profanity. I think I actually pulled a muscle sobbing.

I refused to cry. Much. Bastard is not getting my emotional reaction.

Fandom is going to be a very unpleasant space for a while. I have never been glad to have so much schoolwork before.

[identity profile] greensilver.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I cried buckets. Argh, show.

[identity profile] mistressd1971.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck, now I'm afraid to watch . . .

[identity profile] taffimai.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
He is such a fucking bastard.

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I couldn't help it. And I already have a cold, so really, what's a little more blubber?

He's not getting my viewership again, though, that's for damn sure.

[identity profile] nestra.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I have a sort of 50-50 hope that it will be fixed, but you know. *sigh*

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Fandom's usually a pretty unpleasant space, in my experience.

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yah. Argh. Good thing I have a cold and stopped for more tissues this afternoon anyway.

[personal profile] aeshna_uk 2009-07-10 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Never had any feel for the character and I'm kinda glad to see the back of him, I must admit! Not a bad death, though. Looking forward to what comes next as I'm loving all the new characters! :D

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I could reassure you! Um... there's some other good angsty Janto stuff in it? I think, it's hard to remember now...

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I am LIVID.

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, he was my favorite, and I thought it was a pretty pointless and pathetic death. But I do like Lois, who seems like the one new character that might stick around.

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. *sigh*

At least I can haunt my flist and rec lists for fix-it fic.

[personal profile] aeshna_uk 2009-07-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I liked that it was a miscalculation that had rather rapid consequences - you didn't really see it coming until it was suddenly there. I hadn't been expecting Ianto to survive the week, but thought he'd get a blaze of glory on the Friday. I prefer this, though - his death gives the others a more personal fire in the belly and ups the stakes massively. And I might actually have a hope in hell of being able to write Lois....

So, sorry, but I love RTD and the gang for this. :) Jack is not going to be a happy bunny come tomorrow!

[identity profile] mzcalypso.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I lost interest, mostly, after they killed off Tosh. And when RTD said in an interview that everyone in TW is under 30 because nobody lives long... jerk-off manipulation. RTD, R Moore of BSG... fanboys with some skill and the 'gotcha' maturity of an 8-year old. "Ha-ha,I spoiled your happy ending, girls are such crybabies..." Sorry, not playing.

My POV is that everything that happened after the "Adam" episode is part of his induced hallucinations.

[identity profile] mistressd1971.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I have been informed, and will watch anyway. I'd kind of guessed it. We'll see how it all plays out. Shitty move to make but now I'm invested in the game so . . .

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, then I'm glad at least one person is a happy bunny!

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Ron Moore is dead to me, too, after what he did to Starbuck and Boomer, though I had already stopped watching long before.

I like your POV! That theory sounds really good to me right now.

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, might as well, I guess. It wasn't really a surprise, since it's been in the rumor mill for months, but still. Very shitty move.

[identity profile] margueritem.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
HE TOOK TOSHIKO AND OWEN, THE BASTARD. HE CAN'T TAKE IANTO, TOO! I REFUSE! I REFUSE TO REMOVE THE CAPS LOCK UNTIL THIS IS FIXED, DAMN IT. I'M ALSO GOING TO SWEAR A LOT.

I REFUSE TO CRY. FUCKING RTD.

[identity profile] pollitt.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I already irrationally cried today (over SOUP. Not in my soup, at least) that if I watch tonight, I'll probably be curled on the couch sobbing.

I... Don't know if I can handle it tonight.

[identity profile] mzcalypso.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
These morons don't seem to realize that the really loyal fans don't watch for the SFX--we watch for the people. The kill-off-a-regular was a real innovation... on Hill Street Blues...20-odd years ago. Now it's become cliche and they don't even realize it.

[identity profile] mzcalypso.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
unfortunately, your capslock is not giving RTD crotchrot...

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm okay with it if it serves a purpose. But sometimes it's just like, hey! Look how dark and edgy and "realistic" we are! Happy endings are for pussies!

There was no purpose to Ianto's death except to show that they were willing to kill him.

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
YOU TELL 'EM, BABE! CAPSLOCKED SWEARING IS THE ONLY WEAPON WE HAVE LEFT!

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

Sounds like maybe tonight isn't the best night for it! Maybe wait until the soup is leaving you alone... it's bad enough as it is!

[identity profile] stellarmeadow.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm never watching it. If I don't see it, it never happened.

And RTD is a mother fucking bastard son of a bitch.

And that's the *edited* version--you should have seen what I originally typed...

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
"In a surprise move Thursday afternoon, the hit BBC television series Torchwood was abruptly canceled midway through its third and final season, after series creator and executive producer Russell T. Davies lost his everloving mind."

And yes, my opinion contains similar, heavily edited sentiments.

[identity profile] stellarmeadow.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Never happened."

"What?"

"Never happened."

"But it did. This old man said 'man and wife.'"

"Did you say 'I do'?"

"Well, no. We sort of skipped that part."

"Then it never happened."

And thus by the logic of The Dread Pirate Roberts /Westley, I emphatically do not agree with what supposedly happened, and therefore it never happened.

[identity profile] nel-ani.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Just finished watching. Just stopped crying. I hate to be the kind of person to stop watching something because of one character, but...I guess I'm upset for getting into TW again after having been pretty meh about it and then, well, you know, getting the enthusiasm turned against me.

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know what you mean. I've never been one to watch or not watch a show because of one character, but with TW, it's more than just the one character. Between Ianto's pointless demise and everything else they did to Jack, the Hub, and the basic premise, it felt like big bait and switch.
