These morons don't seem to realize that the really loyal fans don't watch for the SFX--we watch for the people. The kill-off-a-regular was a real innovation... on Hill Street Blues...20-odd years ago. Now it's become cliche and they don't even realize it.
I'm okay with it if it serves a purpose. But sometimes it's just like, hey! Look how dark and edgy and "realistic" we are! Happy endings are for pussies!
