Very deep thoughts re: X-Men: First Class

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew's shiny new blu-ray player, I have now watched ALL THE EXTRAS on the X-Men: First Class blu-ray.

After listening to all the commentary, I am left with one profound, yet unanswered question:

If XMFC is, as the producers repeatedly noted, Twilight in the '60s with mutants, then who would be Bella--Charles or Erik?

Please enlighten me.

Charles is totally Bella. If just because Erik is clearly Edward in this scenario what with all the brooding and lurking and deep investment in his own angst.

Very good point. Although, Bella is also very broody and highly invested in her angst. We may need further analysis.

That is a fair point also. I suppose Erik could be Bella and Charles could be Jacob. I can kind of see it.

So does that make Mystique Edward? She does have a lot of angst over her self-image, and Erik helps her embrace her true nature....

I think that Bella is Erik, mostly because Charles seems like Edward to me - telepathy is the new stalking. Plus, isn't Edward fond of humans and Bella is kinda like 'ick, dnw to be human anymore, ugh'? That seems more like Erik, to me.

Of course, I haven't actually read or watched Twilight.

Yes, very good points! Charles does just kind of swoop down and claim Erik with a big telepathic *chomp*. Very vampiric!

Hmm. Charles, because he Suffers For Love and Erk Suffers From Inner Turmoil. Thus making him the Edward Rochester type.

That is true - we must consider the underlying motivations of their angst!
