So we're having a spot of weather

Hurricane Sandy is bearing down on us at last. It's not too bad here yet - lots of rain and wind, but it's only just getting to the point where I don't feel comfortable going out in it. This morning I ran out for a last minute emergency chocolate run to Trader Joe's. They said they'd be open until the power went out, and didn't seem terribly concerned. They were even restocking the frozen food section.

I'm technically supposed to be working, but my internet keeps going out and now I can't connect to my work computer. Oh well! Fanfic it is.

[livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew has come over to bunker down here. Today is her birthday and she really, really dislikes bad weather, so it's rather a bummer for her. I am planning to ply her with television until the power goes out and then chocolate after that.

Last night we went to see the movie-broadcast of the National Theatre's production of <a href="http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/shows/the-curious-incident-of-the-dog-in-the-night-time>The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. It was totally amazing, but the most unintentionally hilarious moment came with the introduction of a character, whose name was announced as Sandy. It was not a funny moment, but everyone in our theater cracked up. There's no escaping it! Hope everyone on this coast is staying safe, dry, and warm!

Hope you stay warm and dry!

Thanks! You, too!

It's been pouring here for three days now and the wind has now shifted from South West to North East, that'd be Sandy's influence I think. The trees are already taking a beating and the wet ground plus the shift in wind direction is only going to make it worse. The government is warning us to be prepared for 72 hours without power. *clings to internet* So I'm downloading fic, just in case, and charging up all the laptop batteries.

I really wish we got the National Theatre productions in the cinema here. It's hard to justify going all the way to Toronto to see something. I'm glad you enjoyed along with the unintentional hilarity.

Stay safe, warm and dry hon.

Wow, your area must be very soggy indeed! At least we had the good fortune of nice weather up until last night. My power is flickering like crazy now, so I'm clinging to the internet, too.

I'm so grateful that we get the National Theatre productions here. Even having to go into DC during a rain storm is worth getting to see their shows. I hope they start showing them closer to home for you!

Hope you're still hanging in there with the power, and that you make it through Sandy in safety and comfort!

I cannot remember what the sun looks like. And we're not supposed to see it again until Sunday at the earliest.

Power flickering here too and outages in various parts of the city.

Damn this thing is huge!

TV and chocolate sounds like as good a birthday as one can have in these circumstances.

I definitely think so! I don't know if [livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew agrees, but I shall keep applying the TV and chocolate as needed. *g*

Hope you and Charlie are hanging in there.

Be safe!

Thank you, my dear! I'm certainly planning to stay hunkered down for the duration.

Thinking safe, warm, dry thoughts for you and the birthday girl!

[identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com 2012-10-30 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, hon! We are safe, warm, and dry, even if the power is starting to get alarmingly inconsistent. *g*

Hope your studying is going well!

I'm glad that the hurricane is not hitting so bad there! I suppose many people didn't have to go to work?
I hope all of you keep safe!

It's hitting here pretty bad now. Pretty much the whole mid-Atlantic coast is shut down - the only people at work today were at the stores that stayed open for the last minute shopping!

Hope everything is well down there! *hugs*

I work with people in the USA and they were told to work from home today just in case (and maybe tomorrow).

I'll be thinking of you so you can stay safe and warm. And I hope it goes away soon.

I hope you're still ok. *hugs*

Hi! So how was it in the end for you? *huggles*
