Funny Anthrax Story of the Day
This is actually the Funny Anthrax Story of the Day from last week, but heck, I need to post something here sometime, right?
Just to show that my office is not immune to the anthrax-induced panic that's been keeping all of DC ashiver recently--I was just finishing lunch at my desk, including a bag of white cheddar popcorn, when the 1 o'clock mail delivery came around. Our mail guys now wear rubber gloves and masks, but we try not to stare and make them feel awkward.
Since everyone likes to get their mail in a timely fashion (or at least, they used to), I got up and stood over the mail tray, brushing the white cheddar off my fingers. A co-worker coming down the hall spots me dusting off the white powder, and lets out a gasp that sounds like Osama has come for her personally. "Oh my God!" she says. "Did that come out of a letter??"
Good thing none of the mail was for her that day. Her heart might not have held up under the strain.
And kudos to all the DC postal workers still at their jobs, despite the woefully inadequate and reprehensibly classist response of the city and the postal service to the current situation. You're not ever going to get hazard pay, but you deserve it.
And so does my boss, for asking me to read over an article for him, when I was already on the verge of clobbering him with the nearest blunt object today. He wants my opinion, he's going to get it. Not like I have anything to lose with him at this point--and my horrorscope is looking good.
