Wait. There aren't *two* directors named Oliver Stone, are there?

Hm. So Oliver Stone gave a talk at Berkeley last week, and according to a couple of different reports from people who attended, he's intending to completely re-edit the movie, mixing up the timeline and significantly shortening the movie by removing some elements he felt were less than successful. Including, of course, some elements for which I have a personal fondness.

We'll have to wait and see how much of that actually pans out, but color me vaguely disgruntled in the meantime.  At least it explains the ridiculous delay in announcing a release date.

Eurgh, I heard about that too. I just hope there'll be a release in the theatre version as well >.

Yeah, I heard this two, and it sucks. It's the first time I've ever heard of a movie being shorter and having *less* material on DVD than it did in the theater. I am pretty horrified -- I was hoping, if anything, for more A/H, not less.

We can only hope that the European DVD version will have the theatrical cut and we can get our hands on it through Amazon UK or somewhere.

Really, this just totally sucks.

That sucks.

*is all sad now*

I hope so, although if they were going to do that, I'd have expected them to go ahead and release the theatrical version in the next month or so, and then do the director's cut in a few months.

[identity profile] marzilla.livejournal.com 2005-03-21 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I was hoping for that, too! I can't imagine what's gotten into his head, unless he's just being bitter and petulant about the bad reviews.

I saw the rumors that other regions might get the theatrical cut, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that. Otherwise, I'll be treasuring my bootleg for many years to come.

I knew all that slashiness was too good to be true.

It sucks a lot!

Yeah, I may be begging you for a copy of that before long.

So much for being a good elf and waiting patiently for the frackin' DVD.

Happy to send you one any time. Being too impatient to be a good elf can pay off every now and then. *g*

Yup, that's my hope too - I wanted to see the Bagoas love scene they filmed!

Stone is a cretin. What I liked anbout the film I liked in spite of his directorial decisions. The non-linear approach flat guarantees no-one will understand a thing, unless they've read half a dozen books beforehand.

If worse comes to worst, we can fix that. *g*

Though why the heck didn't you see it in the theater, girl???

(Are you doing a YouSendIt with it, you wonderful, wonderful person? I wonder what I could send you... want some West Wing episodes? A DVD rip of Ben Hur? with the Charlton Heston - Stephen Boyd subtexty scenes?)

*bg* slash will always survive! :D thanks for the idea, if it comes to that. *g*

somehow, unsurprisingly to me, i couldn't find ANYONE here that would go see it with me. the one local friend i have who's slash-friendly just kept going "eh..." when i asked. *shakes head* though i guess i got even with her. i've gotten her really, really hooked on SG1 fan fiction and J/D smutfic. *innocent grin*

Have they announced a released date for the DVD now? Because, if they don't soon, I may ask you to bring a copy of your copy of the movie to London, in September (if it's not a bother). I'm re-watching and re-watching this scene from the balcony, and I... God, I want more.
