Family is family

Even when they're totally fucked up.

I just found out that my grandmother died. Six months ago. And nobody bothered to tell my mother until she called and called, and finally found someone to tell her that her mother was dead. Love this clan. And they wonder why I've never wanted anything to do with them.

But tonight I'll put one of these candles to its intended use for once. Because she was family, even if I didn't want her to be, even if no one thought we would care that she was gone.

Aw, jeez honey. That's so rotten, for you and for your mom. Well, there may not be anything you can do about your birth family, but just remember there are other people who care about you, and want good things for you.

Or, in the words of Richard Bach, "Members of the same family are rarely born in the same household." Or something like that.

While you're at it, light one of those candles for yourself. Because you matter, too.
