So. MediaWest. I spent too much and I slept too little, and that has to be a sign of a great con, right? I got to see people I don't get to see anywhere else, and meet people in person whom I've only ever interacted with in pixels. And I came away feeling creatively and fannishly recharged in a way I haven't experienced in years.

So, an overview:

Panels -- generally sucked. The Q/O and Sex 101 panels were good, as was the 50 Ways to Save Your Crumpet (Hornblower) panel. I don't get to talk Hornblower enough, which you wouldn't think, considering how many people I've converted to it.

People -- I didn't get to spend any time with Jennie and Crew (except for one West Wing panel, which made me realize that I really probably shouldn't watch this show anymore), and that sucked. But I did get to hang with a lot of people I don't get to see except for MWC, and I already miss (most of) them. There's nothing like pure immersion with smart, funny, fannish people to make me despair of the mundanity of my everyday life -- and I'm so much luckier in that than some.

Chris Demetral, who plays Jules on SAJV, deserves a special mention for showing up as a regular guy, and for being cute, funny, a sweetheart, and a really, really good sport. How many actors would come to MediaWest and make out with pictures of their male co-stars at the art auction? Well, only one's done it so far.

Zines -- I finally managed to pick up Fuumin's "The Door" (which kept us entertained through several panels) as well as "Rituals and Meditations." That one is noteworthy for Gloriana's "Compay Segundo," which had people hanging over my shoulder in hotel rooms and the art auction, drooling. If that story had been any longer, I would have needed a new zine.

Parties -- I never did make it to the LOTR party, but I hear it was less than inspiring. The Q/O party, however, rocked the hotel down. Kudos to the crew who pulled it together so brilliantly. You ladies are amazing. Even if the bakery wouldn't put kissy Qui and Obi on the cake -- yeah, like Lucasfilm would even *want* to claim ownership of that!

Well, okay, they probably would. But still.

So in summation -- great con. Very tired. Very poor. Can't wait until next year. Must go write Q/O now.
