Date: 2002-12-18 04:49 am (UTC)From what I've heard so far, people who haven't read the book have been raving, and people who have read the book have NOT been happy. I'm not going until tonight, but I promised myself I'll refrain from judging until I've seen it.

Date: 2002-12-18 11:09 am (UTC)Okay, to make a long story short, they made an awful lot of changes from the book. Many more than the last movie. Many of which did not make any logical or emotional sense to me, and a few of which were downright upsetting to me because of my emotional attachment to the character(s) involved.
Plus, I thought that the pacing/editing was too choppy, in a way that should have been avoidable for a filmmaker of Peter Jackson's obvious skill. Fast-paced, yes, but to the extent that I never felt immersed in the world like I did throughout FOTR. So not only did I have specific complaints about specific scenes, but I couldn't even get into all the rest of it like I wanted to. It was just too different.
