I was wondering today while I watched that scene if perhaps he blames Arthur for his sister's death. That would be a motivator.
Yeah, that's certainly a possibility, although I hope that's not it. It would be completely ridiculous to blame him for being born. But it's possible, especially if he didn't know what Uther did to get Ygraine pregnant. Ygraine's other brother, Tristain, certainly seemed to blame Uther.
But it still seems weird to me that he would support Uther's bastard over Ygraine's trueborn son, regardless.
