No, no, I haven't finished the fluff story yet. But now I've got something that will make it a little easier.

For every fandom I write in (and sometimes for every story), I always stumble across a song that serves as inspiration and motivation because it suits the pairing so well. For Sports Night, it was the Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want," which I heard first in a commercial. For the hardest TPM story I wrote, it was VAST's "Touched," which I heard first in a movie trailer (funnily enough, in the trailer for "The Beach," which played in front of TPM all 17 times I saw it in the theater). For HH, it was Black's "Wonderful Life." And for JP3, it was Dana Glover's "I Will Love You" and Robbie Williams' "Millennium." No, that last one has nothing to do with the fandom, but it inspired me anyway.

So I was musing last night that I was having a lot of trouble finding a Sirius/Remus song. I downloaded a bunch of songs that other people recommended, but none of them really worked for how I saw the characters. And I was just scrolling through my music library, when I spotted "Northern Sky" by Nick Drake. I couldn't remember where or why I had gotten it, but I like Nick Drake, so I decided to give it a listen.

Ahhhh. Obsessive Perfection. It fits canon, it fits fanon, it fits the universe I'm writing.

And when I checked the track tags, it turns out that the song was on the "Serendipity" movie soundtrack, which I'd gotten right after I saw the movie, just a few days before I started reading Harry Potter. I love it when things are appropriate like that. Serendipity, hee.

Here's hoping it will energize the muse.

And here are the lyrics, at least as I hear them:

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons, knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Bright in my northern sky.

I've been a long time that I'm waiting
Been a long that I'm blown
I've been a long time that I've wandered
Through the people I have known
Oh, if you would and you could
Straighten my new mind's eye.

Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Would you love me 'til I'm dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high.

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons, knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Bright in my northern sky.

(Remus POV, of course--and Sirius really is the brightest star in the northern sky.)
