Hee! Just got an e-mail that says I can come to our local Jeopardy! tryouts on June 15th. I've been wanting to do this for years.

Not that I actually want to be on the show. Nuh-uh. I would be that pitiable person who freezes in the first two minutes and ends up with $100 in Final Jeopardy and a lifetime of humiliation in my trivia geek social circle. I know this, because I was terrible in College Bowl whenever answering a question involved actual, you know, buzzing in. This is the reason I'm talking about it all here, because talking about something like this is the surest way to jinx yourself.

Nonetheless, I want to take the test and just see how I do. One of my high school classmates won the College Tournament a few years ago, and one of my college friends passed all the tryout stages once, even though they never called her. It should be fun.

Okay, this is too cool. You'll have to write an account of what it was like; I've always wondered! How did you get invited?

I'll definitely write it up! And you just have to go apply on their website for an upcoming tryout location, and then they randomly pick people to invite for an appointment. I've tried before, but didn't get picked, so it's kinda cool to get to go now.

Way back when, they were having tryouts in Atlantic City, and I drove down there, uhm, often in order to take the ten question qualifier quiz. (And I'd consistently get 6is when you needed a 7 to go on.) So eventually, they reran the questions, I got them all right and I moved on to the big test. Never heard back.

I say this all to implore you to go try-out and kick butt in order to fulfill my Jeopardy fantasy.

Ack! Frustrating!

No promises, but I'll do my best to fulfill your vicarious Jeopardy urges. :-)

Good luck girl!! From one who's been on the German versh... it's fun being on TV, and everyone else is inevitably far less clued-in than you are!

I doubt anyone there will be able to do a better deer-in-headlights impression than I will, but you never know! It does sound like fun! Congrats on getting on your version!

This is where all the useless trivia you pick up through fandoms becomes useful (the Egytian gods, archeology, British sailing, etc). I can't wait to hear about it. Go you!

Well, the Egypt, gods and archaeology stuff I knew before, but I certainly wouldn't know the first thing about sailing or much to do with the Napoleonic Wars without fandom! Now, if they just ask a lot of questions about the British navy.... *g*

Get on the show! Make money to fund your addiction! You won't freeze. You'll rock. *g*

Oh, I so would freeze. But it would be really funny -- Alex: "So, what are going to do with all your winnings?" Me: "I'm going to Escapade! And I'm buying a lot of zines!" *g*
