I just saw a story come across the one HP list I'm on, with the pairings listed as "Padmoon" and "Snupin."

Now.  Leaving the embarrassment of "Padmoon" for another time--

Snupin?

SNUPIN???

That tears it.  I am officially Too Old for Fandom anymore.

Here's an exercise which I will share with you, with the confidence that you will not behave in any way that introduces these terms to SG fandom:

Create the portmanteaus for Jack/Sam. (Jack/Janet is also fun.)

LOL

Jack/Paul = Pack. I like that one:)

It's harder for Jack/Daniel - Janiel? Dack? Last names? Ja-Neil? Sounds like a rapstar...

Pack! Hee. But yeah, J/D portmanteaus aren't even funny.

Oh, why do you put such ugliness (Jam? Sack? Hee!) into my head when (Jacknet. That should be a website. Jacknet.net) I've already been traumatized by the Snupin?

Wow. Thank goodness I'm not a conventional shipper in SG. My head would have to explode.

Snupin? Sounds like some kind of kid's detective show. Probably with a dog as the detective. (Appropriately enough.)

Perhaps this should be JK Rowling's next project after Book 7 is done?

SNUPIN?

Is that Snoopy meets Snape in some bizarre animagi accident resulting in the two of them sharing one very odd body?

Good Lord, I hope not.

I was actually thinking that it involved Snape and Lupin having sex and then Lupin morphing into Snoopy when the full moon came out.

Or else Snoopy is now Sirius's animagi form and he happy dances around the bed when Snape and Lupin are having sex.

Hmmm... which scenario requires more bleach to get out of my brain?

You're not too old for fandom - you're just too old for HP fandom. Thankfully, most of the people I know are. ;-D

Sigh. It's such a silly fandom. *g*

I'm just so grateful that so far, all my major fandoms are just barely old enough to have avoided the smooshed name syndrome. Can you just imagine "Quobi"? "Ally"?

I've never seen anything like "Sosh" or "Jam" in West Wing, and I'm really hoping you're not about to tell me that they exist. *g*

West Wing fandom never got into the whole naming thing, but I think that's mostly because the naming thing took off after West Wing fandom had already mostly died.

Oh, and 'Quobi' sounds like a fuzzy little alien that burbles.

It's not that you're too old for fandom, it's that fandom's too stupid for you.

I like that thought better. *g* 'Cause really, I'm just not that old.

I've seen "snupin" and "snarry" so much, I think I'm immune. "Padmoon" is a new one--and I hope I never, ever seen it again--but Sirius/Remus is usually "blupin," which isn't a whole lot better.

I wonder what the H/D writers use. Haco? Drarry? That's the best reason I've seen so far to start reading H/D....

My favorite, though, is "snackin" for Snape/Black/Lupin.

*blink*

...

Seriously? Snupin is common? I mean, I've seen Snarry a lot, and it gives me hives on so many levels, but Snupin? Really?

And Blupin??

*whimper*

I've been reading Sirius/Remus for three years now, and I have never once seen "Blupin." I wonder which spirits I should sacrifice to in gratitude for that.

"Snackin" is kinda funny, though.

I was actually thinking of posting something similar early this morning. Weird. Plus I am also totally getting into Farscape now, too.

I can deal with Snarry. Snupin is odd, but the worst is Snucius for Snape/Lucius. Snucius? It sounds like the illegitimate child of the Snuffleupagus.

What I find even more disturbing than the smush names for fic pairings is the fact that people are now smushing fic categories. My favorite of the lot? Flangst, which is fluffy angst. WTF is fluffy angst?

From: [identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com
Oh my goodness. I have not seen that before. Fluffy angst? Is this the inner emotional traumas of three-headed dogs? 'Cause that's the only way that makes any kind of sense.

I've only seen it in HP, and only applied to student pairings - I'm thinking that if it's a story where the angst isn't of the life or death variety (i.e. one of the pair dies) that the angst is considered fluffy.

[livejournal.com profile] cmshaw and I want it to mean the character is angsting over how flat or fluffy their hair is....
