It is flippin' cold out there

corilannamIt's one of those days where I felt like I'd been smacked in the face when I stepped outside, which is something that still feels foreign to my desert-born heart even after ten years of living in the mid-Atlantic. I had to wait an insanely long time for my first bus this morning, which was unpleasant since my street turns into a wind tunnel in the slightest breeze, let alone the single-digit windchill gusts we had this morning.
Then I was glad I had gotten the later bus, because it meant I got the nice bus driver when I transferred at the Metro station. A lot of bus drivers take their breaks parked up away from the bus bays so that nobody can get on the bus early and bother them. This guy, though, always parks at the stop and lets people get on. Today he even left the doors open so people could escape the cold while he went down into the station. When he came back, he went from bench to bench, urging all the shivering people to get on his bus to stay warm while they waited for their own buses to show up. Then he gave his own gloves and scarf to a woman who had lost hers.
This was a stark contrast to the driver on my first bus, who drove right past a guy at a bus stop, because the guy had his back to the road (to avoid the freezing wind) and didn't turn around fast enough when the bus was coming. The guy ended up sprinting across the railroad tracks (with a train coming) in order to catch the bus at the next stop, and he wouldn't have made that if several passengers hadn't made the driver stop and wait for him.
At least we didn't get the 2 inches of snow they were talking about -- just flurries that made the Winter Lights last night very atmospheric.
Now that I'm warmly ensconced at my desk with tea and oatmeal, I have to finish yuletide. Just two half sex scenes and a short tag to go! Of course, I save the sex to write at work, because I'm exactly stupid like that.
