Care to leave a gal a trail of breadcrumbs? I haven't seen the last two eps yet, and my normal source hasn't psted links! AM going into serious wirthdrawl and may spontaneously turn into a weevil here soon.
There is a lj community for the pairing, no idea the quality of the fic, but I'm planning on checking it out too after seeing the finale. You can fine it @ jackxianto
Don't look at me! This fandom is where I'm doing all my writing these days, but something about that pairing just creeps me out.... ;) Actually, anything involving Jack/team member has an uphil struggle with me. Ah well, another fandom where I just don't get the favoured pairing of 90% of everyone else!
(if anybody has any good reccs for TW gen fic, however....)
Heh. Oh, don't worry, I know better than to count on you for slash recs. My tastes are far too mainstream. ;-)
I do agree with you about the wrongness of any Jack/team member pairing, though. Definitely not an easy or likely thing to make work. It's just that with Jack and Ianto, the inherent dysfunction of the pairing really works for me.
Have you been over to the yuletide archive? There were a few excellent gen stories there this year. And now that I'm caught up with the show, I can read your stuff, too. *g*
You know me - that whole mentor/student thing just isn't my kink.... ;)
I had a look at the Yuletide archive the other week and found some nice stuff; should really go back at some point as I don't think that I went through everything. :)
As for my stuff - the vast majority of it actually predates the show airing! I did pretty well on Jack's characterisation, as it turned out, and it seems that I'm plundering the minor characters for fic inspiration again. All gen and het so far, for some reason - I guess the women have just been more inspiring than the men....
Huh. Never occurred to me to think of it as a mentor/student thing. I mean, that is my kink, but that just doesn't ping for me at all here. I suppose Jack can occasionally be a mentor (mostly to Gwen), but that doesn't feel like the main part of his character to me.
But I've only seen the episodes once, so maybe that will change. *g*
Well, he's damned sight older than... well, all of them put together, really! :) He can't really help but be mentor (and that word crops up a lot in cast interviews) to each of them in turn - with the possible exception of Ianto, he seems to have personally recruited them all. He's infinitely more experienced than any of the others, even if he doesn't always explain that quite as well as he could or should.
Basically, they're his responsibility and he takes that responsibility seriously - Jack has a major Daddy Complex where his team are concerned. :)
As a side note: have you seen the www.torchwood.org.uk website? It's worth a visit, though the HTML version may be rather easier to navigate! Still worth looking at the Flash version after, though, as there do seem to be some bits that pop up on one version but not the other....
He does seem very proprietary of Torchwood -- his house, his stuff, his people, and God help anyone who messes with any of it! But the dynamic most of the time reads more hard-ass boss than nurturing teacher to me, which takes it out of the kink realm (or maybe just puts it in another one *g*). Jack/Ianto works for me just because they're so fucked up in the right way. The only other Jack/team pairing I could see would be Jack/Gwen, but I think that would be tremendously bad for Gwen.
Yes, I spent a good hour clicking around torchwood.org.uk yesterday! Very fun site. I loved all the IM transcripts and random paperwork. Feels like you're poking around their virtual file cabinet

I think these all came from links at this Jack/Ianto community.
Hi, btw. :-)

Funny thing is, I'm not really a Jack/Ianto person. :-) But I enjoy good fic when I run across it.
