Oh, Monday.

***

Thank you for all the good wishes for my mom's surgery. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen as quickly as I had thought. She had some tests done which revealed three separate infections throughout her system (2 different staph infections and one fungal). Obviously, surgery is not going to be a good idea until those get cleared up.

She's gone on keflex for the staph infections. Unfortunately, she can't get the drugs she needs for the other infection until January 1, because her current senior RX plan is dropping Colorado at the end of the year and they've decided they don't want to pay for anything that expensive this late in the game. This particular medication is $500 even in the generic form, so she has to wait until her new plan kicks in at the beginning of the year. I tried to get her to let me pay for it, but she's stubborn.

Yes, health care in this country is just groovy! No problems at all!

***

I finally got a decent cell phone (Android!), now that Virgin is offering $25/month data plans. I've never been willing to pay $100 a month for a cell phone I don't use that much, but $25 to cover texting, web, and 5 hours of phone (more than I'll ever use) works for me. Unfortunately, the data connection doesn't seem to work most of the time. I guess that's what you get for the extra $75?

But I did manage to download Angry Birds. I'm stuck on level 1-6. Damn pigs with their smug snickering.

***

My fannish energy is rather low at the moment, though I have an intermittent urge to write, if not read. I keep poking at all the things I want to work on in the hopes that something will twitch:

-- my old unfinished Big Bang from 2 years ago where Arthur is captured and sold into the gladiatorial rings (I had abandoned this, but somehow feel inspired again after the last couple episodes of the season. Go figure.)

-- any one of the reel merlin stories I'd like to write, if there's another round. (I already have a good start on a Dirty Dancing story, though my chances of getting that in the actual fest are slim. If not that, I have bunnies for The Eagle and, strangely, Due Date.)

-- plus the usual slew of kinky PWPs for the kmm.

I dunno. Still no energy. I need to find more Arthur fans to talk to.*

*Arthur fans who are not bat-shit crazy cyber-bullies.**
**Not referring to any of you guys, obviously.

Oh, jeez, your poor mother. I'll think some good thoughts her way.

Speaking of Arthur fans

Back in the day, it always seemed that the larger the physical size difference between the two characters, the less likely fans of the bigger guy and fans of the littler guy would get along.

I haven't noticed it nearly so much in the last 4-5 years.

But you're making me curious about how Merlin fans and Arthur fans get along.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom--I hope things improve swiftly! The whole health care thing makes me so furious sometimes.

As an Arthur fan, I love your story ideas! The gladiator one sounds fantastic :)

Thanks! Health care really is infuriating -- I've had problems before getting my insurance to provide the exact thing my doctor prescribed, but it really makes me angry when they do it to my mother. It just goes to show that getting everyone insurance is not the answer to all the problems.

I did love the gladiator story back when I was working on it, before it ran into some stumbling blocks. It's kind of funny that in some ways, S3 got rid of a number of those stumbling blocks, with a bit of reworking!

What are you working on these days?

Mostly I'm trying to restrain myself from starting an epic first-gen (Uther, Ygraine, etc.) fic. I'm telling myself that it will be better to wait until the entire series is over, as we keep getting new little tidbits of info about those people.

I've been doing a few little things for the kink meme--I love how low pressure that is, because you can stay anonymous. And I want to do a sequel to a Merlin/OFC fic, which has been sitting around in my brain for awhile. And also an Arthur/Leon situated around the last two eps. I also saw someone mention a Leon/Elena pairing, which I think could be fun. I have to keep reminding myself that I will be able to write Merlin fanfiction for years, I don't have to squeeze it all into the next few months or something :)

Oooh, those all sound good! I do love Merlin/OFC (or Arthur/OFC) fics. And I really, really want more Elena fic--I'm hoping for some Gwaine/Elena, too.

Sure, you have plenty of time to write it, but really, why slow down? Why not write it all... right now? *g*

Sorry to hear that about your mom, your health care is pants for doing this to you guys when you're still covered.

As another Arthur fan (well, okay I like both boys), gladiator!Arthur sounds intriguing and I would like to sign up for your news paper.

Thanks! Yeah, it just goes to show that having health coverage does not always equate to good health care. :-(

I adore both boys, too! *snuggles them both, then pitches them to the lions*

Can you talk to your mom's doc, explain the problem, and see if he has some samples so he can get her started on this? Fungal infections are no joke...

From: [identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com
Yeah, the doctor's been helping as much as she can. She even called the insurance people three times to badger them personally and insist that it does have to be this specific drug. Unfortunately, the word of a doctor doesn't mean a whole lot to insurance companies anymore.

I did ask about samples, but she didn't have any. I guess it's not a common enough drug to have lying around.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom's situation. I hope things will get better. <3

I am getting my first android phone this week too.

the out-and-proud!modern King Arthur/closeted schoolteacher Merlin story

Merlin is the one in the closet and King Arthur is out and proud, got to be the first. I'm happy to hear that you are still planning on writing it for next year big bang.

I love the idea of Arthur as a gladiator. Here I am thinking about him climbing fast and becoming the audiences favorite. (Merlin must be going crazy looking for him-- unless this is an AU and Merlin is a Roman citizen or something.) Lol. As you can see, I am in love with the idea.

Well, it's the first for me, at least! And hopefully a slightly different way of writing the modern royalty, though some of the old, beloved cliches are inevitable, I guess. *g*

And I'm glad you like the Arthur as gladiator idea! No, not a Roman AU, just kind of a weird canon fic, but I'm sure Merlin would be going crazy either way! *g*

health issues are a bugger. and health costs/insurance are a pain all over (when i lived in nz some things were easier and somethings were a lot worse than what i've dealt with in the usa [*shrugs*]). wishing your mum as much ease as she tries to navigate through the hoops and the difficulties ♥

i'm a huge arthur fan, and always willing to talk :D

Yeah, health issues are bad everywhere. It just shouldn't be so hard to cure things that we have cures for, you know?

Yay for Arthur! I just feel like after this series, he needs a bit of extra support. *g*

LOVE your icon, btw!

I'm so sorry about your mum. What a heap of bullshit.

I'm an Arthur fan! All the more after the second half of this season. I wish I was tempted to write, but I just haven't been pulled. All your stories sound thoroughly delicious. Especially the Uther/Merlin. I've never actually read any Uther fic, but I would love to.

Hmmm, I don't actually have any Uther/Merlin stories, though I wish I did. Uther/Merlin is way hot, and I've never seen anything more than a PWP about them.

I'm sorry about your mum *hugs you*. I never quite understand the American health care system.

Any of the Merlin fics sound awesome! Gladiator Arthur though - intrigues me greatly :D

Hee! Thanks. I have to admit, I'm kind of surprised by the enthusiastic response gladiator Arthur is getting here -- back when I was writing him the first time, my beta was the only person I could get excited about it. It's definitely making Arthur perk up and preen a bit, which can only be bad for my peace of mind. *g*

*hugs back*

Hope your mom gets rid of the infections soon. Those fic ideas all sound great, esp. modern out & proud King Arthur and the gladiator one. Surely Gwaine would fit into that one well. :D

Due Date - *snicker* That could be good.

My mom lives in CO also.

From: [identity profile] corilannam.livejournal.com
LOL! Yes, as soon as I started thinking about setting the gladiator fic after S3, Gwaine (and his fellow knights) started perking up and and hinting that they'd like to participate.

Thanks for the kind words about my mom, and yay for Coloradan mothers! I'm honestly not that big a fan of the state as a whole, but my mom sure loves it there. :-)

oh man, Angry Birds! I had to return my Android phone for stupid contract issues, but I'd made it all the way to 4-1, plus was totally caught up on the Christmas content. I MISS ANGRY BIRDS.

Aw man, that sucks! That Christmas content is freakin' hard, too. :-(

There ought to be a desktop version of it. And maybe there is, but I'm afraid to look lest I lose whatever's left of my productivity....
