Okay I felt really stupid at first reading this because I couldn't quite figure out what was going on - and I KNEW something specific was going on because, well, it's you we're talking about here. So I got to figure it out like an awesome sexy puzzle as I read, and then I re-read again once I'd finished it and OH MY GOD, THIS IS BRILLIANT. THEY ARE BIZARRO VERSE MERLIN AND ARTHUR. I loooove that you wrote the whole story from bizarro verse Merlin's pov - I adore the little hints of what his world looks like (ARTHUR WITH HIS MENACING BEARD, MERLIN BEING IN THE MOOD FOR A FLOGGING, MURDEROUS BAMFY GWEN, OMFG) and the AMAZING punch line with Merlin at the end coming back to them all roughed up and SEXIFIED. Oh dear god. And I know part of the beauty of Merlin being returned to them like that is in the suggestion of what's been done to him and not actually seeing it but... WHAT I WOULD GIVE TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT, CORI, WHAT I WOULD GIVE.
And this had to be my favorite line: Pageantry covered many faults.
