Thanks for asking! I had to cut the scene where Gaius and Merlin discuss Merlin's future because I'm afraid it was somewhat of a downer and I wanted to end on a happy note. Gaius will, at some point right after the school reopens, inform Merlin that the school governors have met and decided that it would be better if Merlin did not go back to working directly with the children. Elena will keep Merlin's former class permanently and Merlin will be offered a more administrative, fundraising type of role. I'm not sure what he'll do from there!
