So despite my uncharacteristic optimism, our power was not restored when I got home tonight. We still had a couple of lights and the AC, though, so I wasn't going to complain.

Okay, yes I was.

[livejournal.com profile] lanning cleaned out the freezer and fridge of... well, everything. The only survivors were two jars of peanut butter and a jug of V8. I hauled two large garbage bags down to the trash room, splattering the remains of my beloved pistachio ice cream on the stairs as I went. I do pity our garbage men this week.

Then we settled down to contemplate our blessings -- after all, at least we still had some light and air conditioning, right?

And that's what we call taunting Mother Nature.

Two minutes later, everything went dark. And by everything, I meant our entire complex. "THAT'S NOT FUNNY!" I shouted at the ceiling.

So I've spent the last couple hours alternately reading SG-1 smut on my palm pilot (thank God for backlighting and AAA batteries!) and assuring Oma Desala that I had truly learned the lesson about humility. I was just about to give up and go to bed early for the second night in a row (horror!) when the power came back on. All the power. Even the AC. Even the fridge. Even MY COMPUTER.

And sorry about the anti-rain dance, [livejournal.com profile] widget285. I did my best, but the neighbors were threatening to call the cops, so....

Seems like you guys on the west side of town got hit a lot worse than us on the east. We only lost power for a couple of minutes -- just enough to reset all the clocks and turn my computer off. Hope we all keep power now. This is getting old.

Yeah, I'm getting a little bored with it. Though I shouldn't complain -- we don't usually get hit nearly as hard in our part of town as other places.

In the meantime, am strongly considering buying a Gameboy, just in case.

My SO was talking about getting a generator, but I don't think he'd let me plug my computer into it. ;-)

As long as your palm takes AAA batteries, you're ahead of the game. My Clie is chargable. 8 hours and that's it.

/pets you

Well, that sucks on a monumental scale.

And see! It's not your fault! It's the damned neighbors! You were doing a very good job of keeping the storm at bay until they made you stop.

Thank God you had smut to keep you company.

Smut: it really is a gal's best friend. ;-)
