Well, that's a little more like it
Oct. 27th, 2003 06:49 pmSpent two hours yesterday morning, staring at my notebook, almost in tears, wondering why I couldn't seem to get a single word further on this Stargate story. Part of it is garden-variety depression, and part of the problem is my lack of confidence in the idea -- this is a little vignette that grew big, and I don't trust those. And it's a Fallen/Homecoming bunny, which I'm sure have been proliferating like, well, bunnies out in the fandom. I haven't read any of them, since I'm not on any real fic lists, but I know they're out there, and I'm quite sure that everything I've written is already totally cliched.
Nonetheless, I refuse to let this be yet another story that I never finish. I'm so tired of starting things that never get done. Even if this damn thing sucks, I'm finishing it.
So on the bus I finally figured out the last few lines of the last scene. And when I got to work, I skipped over the two scenes I couldn't finish, and just wrote out the last one. 1500 words in one sitting. I realize a lot of you can do that while brushing your teeth in the morning, but for me that's major. And the last line is written. So now I know I'll finish it, good or bad.
I feel *so* much better.

Personally, I think 1500 words is a lot. :)

Date: 2003-10-27 05:24 pm (UTC)Writing is *never* easy, at least, not writing that's worth reading. Show me the writer who hasn't hit the occasional brick wall, wanted to tear her hair out/cry her eyes out in frustration/toss her computer out the window and I'll show you someone who really doesn't care about her writing. so, rest assured you're not alone.
You've already hit upon one way I've founbd of getting past writer's block: just pick up and start something/somewhere else. Sometimes all it takes is skipping the trouble spot and working on a new part of the fic. A fresh perspective really does help.
Good luck. I look forward to reading the fic when you're done.
