At least it's a short week
Nov. 22nd, 2004 11:28 amI'm not sure what I did to get the bad computer karma, both at work and at home. Gaaaah. I was having a pretty good weekend, which then turned into a lousy weekend when I spent all day yesterday trying to fix my big computer and ended up just making it worse. I can't do anything with it now without it giving me error messages and then eventually the blue screen of death. System restore just screwed it up more. I tried to uninstall TMPGEncoder, which was the program that started malfunctioning at the beginning of all this, but it won't uninstall.
So, tonight I'm going to have to break down and call Dell. I hate dealing with tech support of any kind, but it's way over my head now. Sigh.
And note to self: stop naming electronic equipment after fannish characters. First Frodo the palm pilot's power slowly drained away, and now Starbuck is crashing and burning. I thought that was a safe name, really, I did.

This is going to be another week from hell with the report from hell at work, so I'm going to be preemptively positive and think about the good things about this week:
1) It's short.
2) I get to read Mary Renault on the bus, which leads to--
3) Alexander tomorrow!
4) The Amazing Race tomorrow!
5) I'm not doing anything or going anywhere for Thanksgiving, which is just as well for my WW OP status, but I am going to make stuffing because it's just about my favorite thing in the world, and I only get to have it once a year.
6) Saturday, Philadelphia, which used to be a Thanksgiving tradition of sorts back in college. This time, it's for a day of museum hopping with
chelseafrew, then to see her Broadway boyfriend in Big River in the evening, then wobbling back home at some ungodly hour, but that's okay because --
7) Sunday is for sleep. I will not repeat this last Sunday's 16 hours of computer agony because by next Sunday Starbuck with either be: a) fixed, or b) in a heap of circuits on the sidewalk underneath my balcony. So, lots to look forward to there.
But for now, back to work. Or possibly the Dell tech support website. Who can say?

Date: 2004-11-22 08:29 am (UTC)Hey, too bad you're booked up on Saturday, 'cause I'm hosting a philly_slash get-together at my place on Saturday.
But if you could swing by for even a quick drink & hello, that would be most cool!
