So I'm moving this weekend.  It's somewhat last minute, I haven't moved in almost 8 years, and I've never had my own place before, so this whole week has been a bundle of weird stresses for me.  Thank God for [livejournal.com profile] chelseafrew, the bestest best friend in the world, who organized me almost before I could freak out.   I'm so looking forward to Sunday, when it'll all be over but the furniture buying.

I am truly astounded by the sheer volume of ... stuff that I have.  I mean, I knew I had a lot of stuff, but you never really know until you try to put it all into boxes.  A lot of it's fannish, a lot of it's not -- how I would love to be one of those zen people who have no material possessions and can pack up and move their entire lives at a moment's notice.  I am not and will never be one of those people.  The thought of giving up my Star Wars stuff makes me physically twitch (although I have successfully limited myself to one box of fannish toys to take with me -- anyone looking for action figures and suchlike can get really lucky at the Gaithersburg Goodwill next week).

Oh, and someone remind me that before the next time I move, I need to make some large male friends with pick-up trucks.  I am sorely feeling the overwhelming fannishness of my social life as I contemplate various means of couch acquisition.

*hugs* Good luck. Moving sucks. I didn't realize how much stuff I had crammed into my little two room apartment until I moved last year.

Thanks, hon! It really is amazing how much stuff you can cram into a tiny space. At least it was a really good opportunity to get rid of a whole lot of it. *g*

Buenos dias!

Yuck. Moving.

I had an acquaintance who did not own anything that she could not carry by herself. That girl was extraordinarily free of possessions. She was also looney-toons. No kidding.

My thoughts are with you!

Heeee! Yeah, I tend to believe that anyone who doesn't have a lot of stuff must have something fundamentally wrong with their psyche. And gracias for the good thoughts!

Hee. Ahh, moving. How I so do NOT miss you. Especially the inevitable realizaiton "Wait... where did such-n-such go...?" *bg* But, alas, you just have to roll your eyes at yet another sacrifice to the moving-god.

So what prompted you to go roomieless?

Have fun! :) Not that it's really possible but it's cool once it's over. *g*

Yeah, right now there about a million things I can't find still. It's driving me crazy, but hey, good encouragement to keep unpacking, yeah?

Hey, are you going to be at Con.txt?

Thanks! And no, alas, I already had a trip to Chicago scheduled for that weekend. Ironic, since so many folks from that area are coming here! :-(

Oh, no! I was hoping I'd see you, since I'm one of the Chicagoans who's heading east. Bummer.

Ha! I actually have one of those. But he was out-of-state last year when I moved into my apartment.

Next time, though, I'm hiring movers if I can at all afford it.

Yeah, I swore a couple moves ago that I would never do it without movers again if I could help it. It just makes the whole process so much less stressful when you don't have to carry all the boxes yourself!

First off, congrats on moving! I know it's been a long time coming. One of these days we'll actually meet up in either real life or IM and chat about it. ;)

I am truly astounded by the sheer volume of ... stuff that I have. I mean, I knew I had a lot of stuff, but you never really know until you try to put it all into boxes.

Oy vey, do I know what you mean!!!! I'm looking to try and move before Christmas and I just keep looking at my things...and wanting to curl up under my desk and cry. I so don't need all this crap. Really, most of it I just want to throw away...I too am envious of the zen-not-packrat people. (Though I am convinced they are actually pod people in disguise). I just need to crawl out from under the desk and start getting rid of things.

Btw, re: couch acquisition - if you manage to find a guy with a pickup (and 2-3 of his strongest friends) you can have my couch if you want it. I hate that damned thing, I know that whenever I move I'm just giving it to Goodwill or leaving it for the next residents.

heeee! Wow, with that kind of advertisement for your couch, how could I resist? Oh, right, I've slept on it. *g*

I'm considering IKEA at the moment -- they have a couch I like for not *too* much. It's just damn hard to get them to say how much it would be to deliver it.

Though I keep thinking about moving again and how maybe I don't really need a couch after all.... *g*

i hope the move goes well, and that the stressors settle down quickly. be careful with all the lugging of stuff around. *hugs*

From: [identity profile] marzilla.livejournal.com
Thanks! The lugging wasn't too painful, and none of my friends hurt themselves (which was my greater concern), so a success all around I think. :-) *hugs back*

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

If I weren't going to Maine for work this weekend, I'd seriously consider coming out to help. Sadly, not an option. :-(

If you go with a new couch, most places will deliver. If you go with used, then...I have no suggestions.

**looks sheepish**

Hee! Thanks for the offer -- but I'll definitely expect you guys to come out to see the place sometime soon! *g*

And yeah, I'm probably going with a new couch simply for the delivery factor, sadly. *g*

Hey! I just wanted to stop in and let you know how much I LOVE your TPM fics, Theory of Flight and Extraordinarily Resilient. OMG. It's been a couple of years since last reading much O/Q but I got the urge to revisit some old favorites and ... okay, WOW. I'd forgotten how much I adore your characterizations.

For some reason, I had always remembered Theory of Flight as only that one scene during the trials with the flying and Ani jumping off the cliff, but I'd completely forgotten all the other parts. The discussion in Qui-Gon's bed with Obi-Wan's bare feet on the bed and Qui-Gon touching his foot and just...oh. So, SO much love! Brilliant! Amazing how just a few years completely changes the things in a fic that just jump out at you. *g*

Anyway, SO good! Hope your move went well!

Wow, thanks so much! It's wonderful that those old stories still hold up on rereading, even after all this time. Theory of Flight was one of the stories that gave me the greatest pleasure to write, so it's always especially nice to hear that someone really enjoyed it. :-)

Thanks so much for the feedback!
