Pretty picspam, part 2

Welcome to the second Day of JoSi as I continue my picspamming efforts!
Yesterday we had Duran Duran's rise to fame in the first half of the eighties. Today I'll cover the second half of the decade, which saw a very different band on the scene.
1985 saw the beginning of the end for the boys of Rio. John and Andy had gone off to the US to dabble with The Power Station, while Simon and Nick and (sometimes) Roger stayed back in England to form their own side project, Arcadia. Extremely good hair resulted for everyone, and some good music, too.
The intent was to regroup at Live Aid that summer and then get back together in the studio as Duran Duran. They hadn't had an album in a year and a half, but their James Bond theme song was at the top of the charts and they were still on the top of the world. But Live Aid didn't go so well for Duran, and afterwards, Roger had a nervous breakdown and went to live on a farm. Andy then went off to LA to do his own thing, leaving the rest of the band in the studio waiting for him. It soon became clear he had no intention of showing up, despite Simon's best efforts at diplomacy and their lawyer's best efforts at lawsuits. John was already chomping at the bit himself, and he came close to following Andy's lead, only to be persuaded to stay by the other two, desperate to keep their last Taylor.
So Duran Duran became the trio of Le Bon, Taylor, and Rhodes, and decided to do something completely different with their look and sound for the next couple albums with some excellent results (Notorious) and not so excellent (Big Thing).
But wait, I'm sorry, you're here for the pictures, not the history. So let me lead off with one of my very favorites.

Around the Notorious era, they really were almost absurdly beautiful.

With their heads together in the studio

"Are you done yet? Are you done yet? Let me talk!"

In this cap, John has just completely forgotten what month it is. "Is it March? No, April." "June, dear."

I have no idea what the big feathery thing Simon's holding is. Their fashion choices didn't start to get really freaky for another year or so.

"Look, Johnny, the big feathery thing from the last photo escaped!"

This picture is utterly adorable, but it's even more adorable when you know that they were actually dancing with each other when the shot was taken. As is typical for this era (and to the present day, in fact), Nick is standing several feet away, posing and ignoring them, while John and Simon are completely wrapped up in each other.

Then they finally got to take the show on the road

It should be noted that John does have a perfectly functional microphone of his own....

Gotta love the part of the show when they strip down...

"Look, Charlie, I'm a star!"

The way John is watching Simon in these makes me all shivery

Some of the publicity shots are entertaining simply because it looks they're going to the prom together

Make your own caption for this one

And this one. I'm tired.

I enjoy this photo because Simon looks like he's been ridden hard and put away wet -- and John looks rather smug

Another tired but happy shot

I find this shot incredibly inspiring for the story I'm working on right now...

And then we move up a year, to the recording and touring of Big Thing. The clothes got freaky, the hair got weird, and John threatened to leave the band AGAIN over the mixing of the song "Drug." Drugs were also causing him increasing problems elsewhere, as his coke addiction started leaving visible signs.

On stage they still mostly had it together

And John's inhibitions were at an all-time low, which was good for the JoSi

These shots are from their performance of Election Day/Some Like It Hot in Tokyo in 1989. During the beginning of SLIH Simon moans, "I can't help myself, Johnny."

After that, the rest of the performance... well, you watch it and tell me what you think from about 3:15 on.
And them there were the 80's, folks.
Tomorrow, the 90's, which got worse before they got better, then got worse again, then got a LOT worse, then finally got better at the last minute.
