I'm behind on my e-mail (as always), so I'm just now reading the posts by that adorable kid on master-apprentice who thinks that everyone who clicks on her story thereby takes on a moral obligation to send her reams of critical feedback. Hee! A moral obligation. That is so cute!

I hope somewhere in the scads of replies that I'm working my way through, someone points out to her that historically, the best way to get the collective membership of m-a to *not* do something is to tell them they have a moral obligation to do it. It works exactly the same in reverse, of course ("Mommy, tell us the story about how chan slash started.") We are fans. Specifically, we are TPM slash fans. By nature, we are contrary beasts.

That being said, I think anyone who wants to feel morally obligated to send me reams of critical feedback should absolutely feel free to do so.

I seem to have TPM on the brain today, since I just opened Word Perfect to start work on the story I want to do for [livejournal.com profile] gloriana and [livejournal.com profile] the_emu's zine. It's not due for some time yet, thanks to their repeated and considerate moving of the deadline, but I better start now, while the idea is still somewhat coherent in my head. Plus, the last TPM story I attempted for a zine was an unmitigated disaster, so I may need all the time I can get.

Speaking of TPM on the brain, for those of you who asked me about Ewan's appearance on Virgin Radio yesterday -- he was very cute, of course. The DJ mentioned that he grew up as a lad with a Trainspotting poster on his bedroom wall, and Ewan replied in horror: "You grew up as a *lad*?" Obviously feeling his advanced age, poor baby. *g* DJ also complimented Ewan on his American accent in Big Fish, noting that Ewan has spent a lot of time in the States lately. Ewan said he didn't think he really had, but when they listed all the projects he'd been doing here, he admitted that, yeah, he'd been here more than he thought.

For those who missed it, it sounds like they did one long interview with him last weekend, and they're playing chunks of it every night this week. Yesterday's was around 4:20-4:30 EST. So if you want another chance to hear him, you might have a few more chances.

Did she really say "moral obligation"? *jaw dropping*

Man. That certainly takes entitlement to a new level.

She really did. She wanted to set up some kind of list-wide "contract" and code by which if an author said she was desperate for feedback in the story headers, then the reader was morally obligated to send feedback.

As I've gotten further in the posts, it seems the problem is that she's totally new to online fandom, and somehow got the impression that m_a functioned as a writer's workshop where people could post drafts of their stories and receive beta-like feedback. I have no idea how she could have gotten that impression, but she did. She's been corrected, but now she's on a quest to get the list to start sending more encouraging feedback to new and lesser-known authors. All for our own good, of course. Better people than her have tried, but I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of the thread brings. *g*

people quite politely set her straight, and she backed down.

Then Qor started in. Sigh.

That's very sweet. Though you may need to sacrifice a goat or something as we get closer to the date. Just a heads-up. ;-)
