"My brother, my captain, my king!"

Last night I appropriated my best fangirl and spent several hours in the movie theater watching a movie I've already seen *mumble* times.
Actually, I think I've only watched the extended edition of Fellowship of the Ring once or twice -- although I prefer the extended cuts of the other two movies, I like the original theater cut of Fellowship best. So quite a lot of the extended material was like seeing brand new scenes for the first time, which was a lot of fun.
There was a brief message from Peter Jackson at the beginning. He mentioned how when everything came together, he felt like he was meant to make these movies. From anyone else, that might seem awfully arrogant, but I've held the same opinion myself since the opening minutes of Fellowship. I still vividly remember sitting in the theater opening night, tears streaming down my face because every single moment was so overwhelmingly perfect.
It's less overwhelming now, but I still had to wipe my eyes a few times last night.
It was also great to watch with a theater full of My People, in all our different shapes, genders, and ages. Everyone laughed at the right places and clapped at the end, and as the credits rolled, someone down front shouted, "See you next week!"
Yup. Got my tickets.

During dinner before the movie last night, the family at the next table was having a little mini-birthday party with three boys around 6 or 7 years old. One of the small boys declared that he wanted to marry one of the other small boys. The second small boy seemed fine with that idea, but the third loudly (and repeatedly) declared, "A boy can't marry a boy, that's ILLEGAL."
It was all I could do not to lean over and say, "By the time you're old enough to get married, it won't be." I didn't, of course, 'cause, you know, not my kids and all that. But it was nice to think it and actually believe it.

Somebody, please make me stop reading X-Men fic. It's really starting to interfere with my life.

Date: 2011-06-15 08:21 pm (UTC)i was at lotr:fotr last night, too! and ditto on the seen-a-heap-of-times-but-not-that-many-of-the-extended-version. my issue was that i moved to nz shortly after fellowship came out, so i spent the entire movie going, "oh! glenorchy!" or "meanwhile, back on the north island" or "awwwww, i have a picture of me in that exact spot!" or "there's the feet that gino made!" or "look at baby elijah/orlando/dom/sean" or "i wish billy wasn't so bitter"
::flails a bit::
i had good currency for the crowd though, in nz, it's no big thing if you were in the movies (everyone either was, or knew someone that was), but here in the usa? total gold (i'm in lotr:rotk as an orc). so i met a few people, and we all said we'd be back next week.
today i got out the soundtracks and put them in my itunes because i was dying to listen to them on the walk home last night. now i'm prepared for the coming sessions!
it was really wonderful to be back with the lotr peeps for a night, i've got to say.

Date: 2011-06-15 05:52 pm (UTC)I'll be happy to tackle you to the ground for your own good. You know, as soon as I'm finished reading this Charles/Erik fic. (I'M NOT CRYING. IT'S JUST RAINING. ON MY FACE.)

Date: 2011-06-15 06:07 pm (UTC)See, I don't even have time to find a Charles/Erik icon because I'm too busy with the constant stream of angst fic!

Date: 2011-06-15 07:52 pm (UTC)I watched his longer episode review, too, which was also great. His face during the first minute or so of that totally mirrors my feelings while reading the relevant portion of the book.

Date: 2011-06-15 07:38 pm (UTC)My life is totally Xmen fic right now. I wish I was WRITING some but I am all nervous about it. NEW YET LONG BELOVED CHARACTERS WHY SO HARD.

Date: 2011-06-15 08:04 pm (UTC)I really want to write some X-Men, too. I have some ideas, but I have so much Merlin to write and I'm so behind that I just can't let myself get distracted (LIKE I'M NOT ALREADY, RIGHT??)
BUT YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO WRITE THEM. Don't be nervous! There are so many canon versions of them, you really can't get it wrong! *pom poms*

Date: 2011-06-16 07:37 am (UTC)But, you know, X-Men was my first real internet fandom, albeit in a lurky way - we're talking alt.fan.xmen here! And I joined eGroups (later OneList, later YahooGroups - my account just kept getting reassigned) specifically to join the Magneto list. The fannish karma fairies are just finally catching up with me or something.
(what, me have a bit of a thing for pragmatic sometime-antagonists who might just have a bit of a point? C'mon, it's not like I have previous! Actually, I blame that entire thing on Erik anyway, so it's just coming full circle....)
Hmm, time to find an X-Men icon or six, methinks....

Date: 2011-06-15 09:14 pm (UTC)And LOL at that vid - that was pretty much my reaction too when I read it in the book. I love how worked up he got, brother had to pace and everything. AHAHA. Love it.
