Hey Cori, what is merlin holidays? How does an exchange fest work? (Sorry, I'm so new to all of this, still.) I've tried to look at the rules and schedule posts, but I'm not sure I understand anyway...
Basically, everyone signs up to both write and receive a story (or artwork). You fill out your preferences for what kind of story/art you'd like to receive (like pairings, fave characters, fave tropes/kinks, and you give at least 3 prompts of some kind which can be either an idea or a vid or picture or whatever). Then you fill out your preferences for what you're willing to create (or not!) for someone else.
Then we work some modly magic and match everybody up. You'll receive a link to your recipient's sign-up form so you can see what they asked for. Then you go off and have about six weeks (I think) to write/art. It's all anonymous, so like pthon, you have to be hush-hush about it.
When you're done, you send your gift to the mods. We make sure it's complete and all that, and then we give you a posting date. On or before your date, you anonymously upload your gift work to AO3 as a gift to your recipient. Your recipient freaks out with joy!
And in the meantime, someone has been busily working on something just for you! So you'll get an awesome story or artwork and hopefully also freak out with joy!
Tomorrow I'll be posting a sample sign-up form, so you'll be able to see the details of how it works.
A contact person is someone in fandom who either knows you well enough to answer questions about your likes and dislikes or who can be a go-between between you and your anon gifter if your gifter has questions about something on your sign-up form or just wants to know if you would appreciate a particular trope or kink that's not mentioned on the form. You can put down their screenname and email address.
