Stargate SG-1: "Citizen Joe"

Every week I mean to post about Stargate, and every week I end up sleeping instead. But not this week! No, this week I made sure I was wired on sugar first!
This just cracked me the hell up from start to finish. I had my doubts about the set-up as I read about it beforehand, but as an obsessive Stargate geek, I felt well-served by the steady stream of in-jokes. I honestly don't know what anyone who's just a casual viewer could have gotten out of this ep, but fortunately, that's not really any concern of mine. They meta'd the meta out of the meta, and it was good fun.
My favorite things --
*All the Simpsons jokes, including the very casting of Dan Castellaneta, who was wonderful.
*The Furlings references. I am now convinced that we are never going to learn anything about the Furlings simply because we have yet to learn anything about the Furlings, and at this point it's become A Thing.
*The bad episodes references. I especially cracked up at the mention of Seth perhaps not being his best work. Hee, Hathor! But I agree with pretty much everyone else so far -- quit picking on The Light! That episode rocked, man!
*His grief at Daniel's "death" and ecstatic joy at his resurrection. I loved that as a representation of fandom, particularly the part where he was running up to his wife, all afire to share the news that guess what?? Daniel isn't really dead!! OMG can you believe it?? Because honestly, how many of us haven't done that with exciting fannish news to some innocent friend or family member who really could not have given a damn?
*The "new" flashback scene with Jack and Daniel and the artifacts and the godawful wig. Hee! "Hey, fella."
*And speaking of Jack/Daniel scenes, even if the meta hadn't already been cracking me up for the better part of an hour, the episode would have won me with the Jack/Daniel/Joe exchange in the infirmary.
Joe: Dr. Jackson, can I just say, thank goodness you're back. Not that Jonas was a bad guy, but after all you've been through together, you belong here with SG-1.
Daniel: Thank you -- Jack??
Jack: He's a barber.
Daniel: Broke into your house?
Jack: Yeah.
Daniel: Second week in a row.
Jack: Mm-hm.
Daniel: Alarm.
Jack: I'm thinking dog.
Joe: You *could* try locking your front door.
Man, that just broke me. Writing it down can't even do justice to the inflections. I am betting that after Osiris's little nighttime visitations, Daniel invested in the most state-of-the-art home security system on the market, and then brought Sam and Siler over to Goa'uld-proof it.
*Speaking of home invasions, Jack pulling the gun out of his kitchen drawer amused me even more than him pulling it out of his pants last week. I guess that's Jack's idea of a home security system - a gun in every room! He must put them next to the spare bottles of lube.
*And oh, Jack. How I love him. Just sitting there all those years, relaxing with the hallucinations of the barber in Indiana and not thinking anything of it. He is a very laid-back man, and his life is seriously weird, and never has there been better proof of that than here. The team reactions to it were priceless.
*hugs my show in all its self-indulgent glory*

Date: 2005-02-22 12:24 am (UTC)so, i got to watch the ep on saturday morning. heeee! this was hysterical. and it had adorable j/d in it, which is always lovely.
the wife got in at least two lines (not as much team anymore and too much blowing shit up) that had me rolling, saying "yes, exactly!" ;) and his reaction to daniel in abyss all but had me rolling on the floor. 'cause like you said... all fannish types have done that to various family members at different times - prattling on about stuff they seriously don't give a crap about. at least, i know i'm guilty and my parents and friends have suffered for it. *g*
now to just completely boil the ship line out of my head and it's a totally great episode. *g*
oh, and loved the fact that locals in the town had simpsons character names. i caught margorie and lenny, for sure. *g*

Date: 2005-02-19 02:16 pm (UTC)I was middling on a lot of the jokes up until then, but that part (and the infirmary scene) *killed* me. Jack is so weird and I love it.

Date: 2005-02-19 07:26 pm (UTC)and speaking of laughing hysterically, your description of jack having a gun in every room has put me over the edge. :::faints laughing:::
you're completely right about jack, a little moment of peace and quiet with a barber, in the midst of the crisis of the week. no wonder he kept it to himself. *veg*
and although i spaced on dan castellaneta (shame on me, and i just watched the rerun of the simpsons cast on 'inside the actors studios a few months ago), that was brilliant. and the moment when joe and jack are discussing burns as a goa'uld. bwahaha.
as for joe's response to daniel's death and resurrection, that was very well done. and why yes, i have run around whooping it up in response to various stories, episodes, and spoilers. must drive my family nuts. not to mention the co-workers.

Date: 2005-02-23 04:12 pm (UTC)Hee! Yeah, there are days when I'm all bouncy about some fannish thing or another, and my coworkers ask how I'm doing, and all I want is to burble on about the latest episode of whatever and how happy it made me.
