Another catch-all journal entry

Happy Friday, everyone!
Work is almost done for the week (*weary yaaaaay!*), so I can finally start turning my attention to some of the things that are making me happy.
For instance! Last night I went to the grocery, and there were the very first Honeycrisp apples of the season! I got addicted to these last year, and no other apple is capable of making me happy any longer. Every time I'm in a store, I have to go look to see if they're back (not just recently - I've been doing this psychotically for the last ten months, since they went away the last time). And now they are! It's the one thing around here that actually makes it feel like fall.
I also got a nice surprise when I walked into my local Target and found that they're having a big sale on TV boxsets, with selected titles on sale for $18.88. I picked up the first season of Nip/Tuck and a couple of others. They also had the first season of Without a Trace, One Tree Hill, Lois and Clark, and Smallville, and the first two seasons of ER and Gilmore Girls, plus a few others I can't remember right now. So if you've been meaning to pick any of those up, head on over to Target because $18.88 for something that's normally $50 is a pretty good deal.
Oh, and I know I'm not the only person noticing, but which one of you was it who gave the Without a Trace cast and crew a copy of the Slash Fan's Wishlist for the 2005 Fall Season? Because damn. My icon is in honor of last night's episode.

I meant to post something about last weekend, which I suppose I should do before it becomes the weekend before last.
chelseafrew,
ndannais and I headed up to the NY/NJ area to visit with
rosemitchell and The Cutest Kidlet in the World (tm), see Serenity (for the third time, counting the early screenings, and it's still just as good), and then went to Lincoln Center to see Michael Ball perform in Patience (one of the lesser known Gilbert & Sullivan operettas). I usually spend a good bit of time mocking Michael Ball, but I have to admit, he was utterly marvelous in Patience. Turns out he's a brilliant comic actor and his voice did not sound at all out of place with the professional opera singers. Now if he'd just do nothing but Gilbert & Sullivan for the rest of his career, I could be a fan.... *g*
Plus, the operetta? Totally a metaphor for fandom. Twenty lovesick maidens, indeed.

I really need to finish transitioning all of my fannish activity over to my mieza.net e-mail address, because AOL and yahoogroups just don't get along anymore. Every couple of days AOL starts bouncing yahoogroups mail until my account gets put on hold. Finally I just stopped unbouncing it, figuring I could just read on the website. Nonetheless, it occasionally will spontaneously unbounce itself and I'll get mail for a couple of days until it stops again.
The amusing part of this is these spontaneous gushes of mail nearly always coincide with bursts of activity on m_a. So the last time this happened, a couple of weeks ago, I had just read someone's LJ post about the latest wank on the list. Minutes later, like magic, the wank started showing up in my mailbox, after a few weeks of getting nothing at all. I saved it to read when I got a chance, but I just now deleted a whole load of it at once because I've realized I just can't take the Arrogant Bastard Qui-Gon debate again. The people who sincerely believe that Obi-Wan was a poor innocent woobie padawan who was cruelly used and abused by his jackass of a master make me crazy. After two posts, I wanted to pick them all up by the shoulders and shake them until their teeth rattle out of their heads. Argh.
But it reminded me I need to finish my offering for the m_a fundraiser zine. If I could decide which story to finish. I've been futzing around with the longish, plotty, thing that I posted half of here for WIP Amnesty Day a couple of years ago. And I've also been fiddling with the shorter one where Qui-Gon has sex with himself, a tree, a woman, and Obi-Wan (not necessarily in that order)(that promiscuous bastard!).
Hm.

Date: 2005-10-07 09:58 pm (UTC)Aw, man. Don't tell me I'm going to be all alone in my mocking now. That's no fun.
I vote for whichever one includes non-con. Or lots of Obi-Wan angst. :D
And, uh, not to make you jealous...but we've had Honeycrisps around here since the beginning of September. :P Though so far I've only seen them at the farmer's market. Last week they only had two crates of them, though. I bet they're probably out now. :( The 4 pounds in my fridge are rapidly dwindling.
I did discover last year that Pink Ladies are a decent substitute...and apparently Honeycrisps are a hybrid of Macoun and Honeygold. I had a Macoun, not too bad. I've never seen a Honeygold though.
