The Fed Ex that's been sitting in my rental office for almost a week was not my passport. It was a letter from the passport agency saying that my birth certificate and photo ID were not enough for them, and that I have to submit my high school yearbook as further proof.

Someone downtown is getting off on this, I swear.

So now I get to spend my day down in DC, sobbing onto some State Department flunkie's paperwork.

If I'd gotten the letter last week, I might have had a chance to still get my passport before I leave. But now? I dunno. London's not looking hopeful.

Fucking bastards. I hate the government, I really do.

What the heck?

Since when is a high school yearbook an officially accepted government document?

Crossing fingers and toes for you!

I haven't owned my high school yearbooks (which were far from typical, yearbook-wise) for at least 15 years. They're long gone. I wonder what these folks would expect from me.

It's just a very good thing that I'm a sentimental packrat, or I would have been even more in trouble than I was. And my yearbooks (which I brought in from third grade through high school) are not typical, either, which caused the poor State Department people some consternation. But I just stared at them blankly until they got over it.

I have no idea, but apparently it's more useful to them than my Maryland photo ID learner's permit. Oy vey!
